Diary of Adrian's sailing trip across the Atlantic on Jeannius
29 November 2002
Not much to report from the night watches, a single light on the forward
horizon was all. Probably another yacht on the opposite tack to us.
We have had a huge cooked breakfast. Lunch will now be mid afternoon, which
itself is later as we have put our clocks back for the first time. While this
is not strictly necessary, it helps with timing the watches to start at dusk
and end at dawn around 20.00.
I have spent most of the morning getting positions of the other boats into a
database. We can then view positions and tracks of other boats on a chart,
similar to our software used on www.worldcruising.net
While the software was written by the company some of us work for, the lists of
positions are being sent to us in a different format to that the software was
designed for.
The afternoon has been spent listening to the daily dose of "I'm sorry, I
haven't a clue.", reading and listening to music.
I think now is a suitable time to introduce to you the sixth member of our crew
- Samantha. I have not mentioned her membership of the crew before in case you
misunderstand out relationship. She is a full member of the crew, with her own
duties. One thing she can't do is cook though, not a bit. Shame. She doesn't
say much, just stays in the corner minding her own business. The only time she
interrupts is when she thinks that we have asked her to do something wrong.
We all look forward to our night duties with her, especially Jim, although Mike
has threatened to exercise his veto with her if any arguments break out. Jim
suggests that this would be suitable material for Terry's video. He is sure
Jean would be very interested!
